Course Materials: cover all the MCQ exam competencies
The books are designed to provide participants with one source for studying; the information provided is an amazing compilation of knowledge from multiple sources (CTC, RxFiles, UpToDate, CPS, CTMA, Canadian guidelines, to name few). The materials are reviewed regularly to reflect the latest changes in the covered competencies and the updates are shared with those who are registered in the course.
Participants do not need to use any other resources.
You will receive 2 therapeutics books that are shipped to you immediately after registration. You will also receive one management PDF book that is available on the course portal through a plugin/app called FileOpen. This is an extension to Adobe reader. This book must be downloaded and printed, if you wish to have a lifetime access to it. Once your course subscription expires you will no longer be able to access our online materials. To print you will need a laptop connected to your printer. The printer must be connected to the laptop device that has access to the materials.
Device requirements: 64-bit Windows 10 or later, Server 2016 or later or macOS 12.0 or above and a printer
Please note that our CVS chapter is also found in PDF format, as we slowly begin to switch from hardcopy to digital distribution.
Course Structure: The course consists of two major components: recorded therapeutics videos, and live management classes.
Recorded Therapeutics Videos
There are over 130 therapeutics videos. Each video is topic/disease-specific (some topics, such as diabetes, have more than one video). The contents of these videos are intended for self-learning, and they are NOT covered in class. You are very welcome (and encouraged) to ask questions to the designated email, about these videos once your course begins. It is critical that course participants start watching the videos as soon as they get access to the videos and receive their books. The earlier you finish watching them, the more time you will have to review and focus on other things. As you watch the videos, it is highly recommended to take notes. Once you finish watching the videos and taking notes, you will have one comprehensive source for studying therapeutics.
Live Management Classes
The live management classes cover the non-therapeutics contents of the exam (e.g., laws, ethics, calculations, pharmacy practice, etc.). The live management classes do not rely on “reading slides,” instead there is a lot of explanations, examples, practice scenarios, etc. This approach keeps participants alert and engaged and it makes comprehending, memorizing, and recalling the management materials much easier.
***The live management classes are recorded and added to your MCQ course portal***
Participants may attend the live management classes online or in-class. You will be asked to state your preference at the start of the course.
The course is taught by Dr. Usama Elbayoumi, who holds a Ph. D from U of T and a PharmD from UF. Usama also works with the PharmaSpirit team to ensure that the course materials are up to date. He has been teaching pharmacy professionals since 2005. He was an OSCE instructor and the coordinator of coordinator of professional practice and pharmacy at the IPG program at U of T. He currently works as a Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmacology.
